I have always enjoyed a good philly cheesesteak sandwich. The Philly Cheesesteak Ring recipe was born the day of the Superbowl. We were having a party and I wanted to make something new that everyone would love. My sister regularly makes taco rings filled with deliciously seasoned beef and cheese rolled up in crescent dough. Taco rings are always great for parties because they’re fun and the fact that they are in a beautiful ring makes them fancy. So I was sitting in bed thinking hmmm what to make, what to make… taco rings are good… philly cheese steaks are good… LIGHTBULB!! I will make a philly cheesesteak ring! That way we have the tasty philly cheesesteak and the festive fun ring put together! So I set out to make this main dish and when I was finished my Philly Cheesesteak Ring got rave reviews from everyone at our Superbowl party!
The filling is pretty simple to make. Start by caramelizing your diced onion in melted butter over medium high heat. Then add beef broth and cream cheese. Stir this mixture until it melts together. This mixture will add that creamy richness that is signature of a philly cheese. Add roast beef, salt, and pepper to the mixture. For the roast beef I like to use sliced roast beef that you can order at the deli counter of your favorite grocery store. Stir this mixture until your meat is thoroughly coated with creamy goodness. Set this mixture aside.
Open your tubes of crescent rolls. I like to use Pillsbury because they are perforated in triangles. Separate each triangle of dough. On a large covered baking sheet or a circular pizza pan arrange the dough triangles into a ring with the wide ends of the triangles overlapping. Then use an ice cream scoop (I told you I use this tool for many of my recipes!!) to scoop your meat mixture onto the wide end of the crescent roll dough. Once you have used all of the meat, lay your slices of cheese on top of the meat. Then fold the narrow tips of the crescent roll triangles over the meat and cheese and tuck into the center of the ring. Place your baking sheet or pizza pan in your oven pre-heated to 350 degrees. Bake for 25 minutes or until your crescent dough is cooked through and lightly browned. Cut your ring into slices and serve warm. So simple, so tasty. I would love to hear how your Philly Cheesesteak Ring turns out!
