The BEST Sugar Cookies

The BEST Sugar CookiesI have tried a lot of different kinds of sugar cookies. Some recipes are harder than others. Some cookies end up tasting better than others. With this recipe my search is over. This recipe makes the BEST Sugar Cookies! By best I mean these cookies are the easiest and tastiest. If you don’t believe me, give this recipe a try and then you will believe me. (trust me!) It is so fun to make these scrumptious sugar cookies for fun occasions. They are so easy to decorate for any occasion. You can check out my football and valentine cookie decorating ideas. I had a blast making them and my family had a blast eating them.

To make these sugar cookies, simply pour your sugar, butter, cream cheese, salt, almond extract, vanilla extract, and your egg yolk in a bowl. Yep, in one step you can blend all these ingredients together. Next, add your flour and your dough is made. Did you blink? Because if you did you probably missed that we have already made our sugar cookie dough! Fast right!

Since our dough has both butter and cream cheese it will feel really soft. So separate it into three disks and cover with plastic wrap. Then place your dough in the fridge for an hour and it will be easy to handle. After your dough has chilled, roll it out on a floured surface.   Make sure to cover your rolling pin with flour as well to keep your dough from sticking. I like to roll my cookies thin to about 1/8 inch thick. Then use whatever cookie cutter you like to cut out your shapes. Place your cookies on a cookie sheet covered with parchment and place in an oven heated to 375 degrees. Bake for 8-12 minutes until your cookies are a light golden brown. Then immediately remove your cookies from your cookie sheet and place on a wire rack. This will help your cookies to cool and avoid any overcooking because your cookies would continue to cook on your hot cookie sheet. Once your cookies have cooled, frost with my Cream Cheese Frosting or Perfect Buttercream. Both are fantastic! How do you like to decorate your sugar cookies?

The BEST Sugar Cookies

1 cup sugar

1 cup butter (softened)

3 oz cream cheese (softened)

½ tsp salt

½ tsp almond extract

½ tsp vanilla extract

1 egg yolk

2 cups flour

In a large bowl, mix first several ingredients with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. On low speed blend in flour until combined. Shape dough into three disks. Wrap each disk in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for one hour for easier handling. Heat oven to 375 degrees. On floured surface , roll one disk of dough at a time to ~1/8 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut dough to desired shapes. Place dough on cookie sheet covered with parchment paper about one inch apart. Bake cookies for 8-12 minutes until light golden brown. Immediately remove cookies from cookie sheet and place on wire rack to cool. Cool completely then frost with desired frosting.
